Injury Case Against Chinese Consulate Security Guards Begins in New York
WRIC News 07-02-2025
Ms. Fu Yuxia, a Chinese immigrant from Shanghai to the United States, was among a group of petitioners protesting in front of the Chinese Consulate in New York. On July 1, 2014, and March 7, 2016, Ms. Fu Yuxia was twice deliberately beaten and disabled by security guards employed by the Chinese Consulate, resulting in permanent shoulder injuries and severe emotional distress. In addition, several other petitioners who were present during the incidents also testified in court, stating that they were also beaten by the Chinese Consulate’s security personnel to varying degrees.
Ms. Fu Yuxia’s personal injury lawsuit against the security personnel employed by the Chinese Consulate and their company opened on July 3rd; the trial will continue on July 14th.
Some public opinion suggests that the Chinese Consulate security guards inflicted such heavy blows on peaceful Chinese petitioners, which should have been directly or indirectly instigated or tacitly approved by the Chinese Consulate; otherwise, they would not have acted so ruthlessly. In 2014, Fu Yuxia was unable to sue the Chinese Consulate, which enjoys immunity, allowing the security guard to act recklessly again. This is, in fact, the most open and blatant instance of transnational repression.
